  1. The conference was quite an experience.

1200 people actually showed up along with a gaggle of news crews.

Presentations going on in 3 locations to get through everything.

This conference was an important step in reaching Clusterbuster's goals and has helped move our work forward.

2 CNN video segments, The Lancet, Nature Magazine, The Associated Press,WIRED, Yahoo News and dozens of other articles and reports stirred up by the conference so far:

    http://teleomorph.com/2010/04/22/psychedelic-science-in-the-media/

With everything going on, it was tough getting a mention in the articles. I'm still getting through them all but I know we got mentioned in the Lancet..

    Onward and Upward!

    Bob

Thanks to the Busters that attended  :)

  2. Spring is in the air. (Especially here in San Jose!! lol)

The board may be a bit quiet but there are some great things happening in the background.

    be well everyone,

    Bob

  3. For those of you that would like a reason to pick up a copy of the April Playboy, plus actually read an article......here's your chance ;-)

A good article on psychedelics and medicinal uses, including a mention on our cluster headache treatments....

    http://www.maps.org/media/playboy_the_psychedelic_renaissance_CT_0.pdf

Rick Doblin is a good friend of cluster headache sufferers and has helped us a great deal in making progress in our research.

  4. No one is questioning your plight or sincerity. Until we have a better idea of what is causing the headaches and the correct medical diagnosis, as well as what has been tried, any direct advice would just be guesses. Not a good thing when dealing with such serious issues.

Let me try to ask a few questions that will help all of us.

    1. What "major" medications have been tried and were they completely useless or did they offer some relief?

    Prednisone?

    Imitrex? (or other triptans)

    Lithium?

    Depakote?

Verapamil (if so what dose was the highest?)

    others?

2, Are the headaches constant or come and go? (if they come and go, what is the approximate frequency and duration?)

Cluster-Migraine was for a long time thought to be a misdiagnosis and probably was but has evolved a bit and is actually used by some headache clinics/experts.

It would refer more to a migraine headache with a pattern that mimics a cluster cycle. Such as several of them in a day rather than a 3 day non-stop banger. So, your diagnosis may be correct and I wouldn't argue with your doc over it.

Some people think that nausea only occurs with migraines but it is present in a small percentage of cluster sufferers.

It can get tricky coming up with a correct diagnosis for even the best of docs, for a unique set of people/symptoms. Most times clusters can be diagnosed very easily. But, it still takes some people years (for some ungodly reason) to get diagnosed properly. This is another reason for people wondering about symptoms.

many people report some trauma that triggered their cluster headaches. A deep sea dive, an accident with head trauma, a bar fight (usually on the losing end ;-) etc.

Deep Brain Stimulation is being used sometimes to treat headaches. Not well enough for my taste and its all in the very early stages of clinical testing. So far the results aren't very good that I know of. Yes, you're correct that it was first used to treat things like Parkinson's and I think those results are better than headache treatments.

My guess is that you've already tried all the usual medications and the docs thought the DBS was the next step.

That may be based upon what the conventional medical establishment has to offer but I can assure you that there are other things that can be tried that can not be prescribed (yet)

Most of us here have been in your position of feeling we are more trouble than we're worth to those around us.

Talk to us. Next time you feel like you're taking it out on those around you, come here and vent. We can hear you and understand you.

  5. I took Sansert circa 1990's.  Very expensive then (I was uninsured at the time)  Can you explain the differences in these substances?  Layman terms please.

They are similar like grape juice and wine.

Sansert is taken every day for 6 months and then taking a break, and can lead to some serious side effects.

Bromo-lsd is being tested as a treatment used three times, and done.

Sort of like driving non-stop, every day for 6 months, without a seatbelt vs. driving 3 times with a seatbelt each time.

  8. what are the risk factors regarding these sites...  i live in new york and dont much care for being arrested...  but would like to give this route a shot...

There is nothing illegal in shipping or ordering spores in 47 states. New York is one of the 47. I believe the three states that do not allow spores are California, Georgia and idaho. Someone may want to confirm those three or correct them. I do know for sure that its perfectly legal to order and have them shipped to New York.

The sites that sell them will normally tell you whether or not they can send them to you. They don't want any trouble either.

In the children's unit of Creedmore State Hospital with a resident population of 450 patients, ages 4 to 15, we have investigated the responses of some of these children to lysergic acid and related drugs in the psychiatric, psychological and biochemical areas. Two groups of boys receiving daily LSD, UML (which is a methylated derivative of LSD) or psilocybin ... at first the medication was given weekly but was eventually given daily for periods of up to several months. Dosages remain constant throughout, LSD 150 mcg. (which is a standard for an adult trip), psilocybin 20 mg. daily or UML 12 mg. daily, all given in two divided doses. The average duration of treatment was 2 to 3 months. Daily. Children, 7, 9 , 11 years old ...

Treatment of Childhood Schizophrenia Utilizing LSD and Psilocybin

    http://maps.org/news-letters/v07n3/07318fis.html

Now that the FDA has permitted research with LSD and psilocybin to resume, we feel it is important to share examples of a remarkable experiment, the results of which were not sufficiently taken into account because this line of research was prematurely halted in the mid-sixties due to political considerations. Childhood schizophrenia is still a difficult problem to treat and causes much suffering. It is a terrible shame that research done 35 years ago is still the last word on the use of psychedelics to treat these conditions.

Psychedelic Science in the 21st Century

April 15-18, 2010 in the San Francisco Bay Area

    An International Conference

Offering Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits.

    Open to Physicians,

    Other Therapeutic and Medical Professionals,

    and the General Public

Psychedelic Science will bring together international experts to present on psychedelic research and psychedelic psychotherapy topics for the largest conference dedicated solely to psychedelics in the U.S. in 17 years. There will be three full days of programming with concurrent tracks exploring clinical applications, issues relevant to healthcare professionals, and social and cultural issues surrounding the therapeutic and recreational uses of psychedelics.

Psychedelic Science will offer pre- and post-conference workshops with Stanislav Grof, M.D., Rick Doblin, Ph.D., Michael Mithoefer, M.D., Annie Mithoefer, B.S.N., Alex and Allyson Grey, David Nichols, Ph.D., Franz Vollenweider, M.D., Ralph Metzner, Ph.D., and Ann Harrison and Carolyn "Mountain Girl" Garcia of the Women's Visionary Congress.

Also speaking will be Bob Wold (Me  ;)

    from Clusterbusters.

This conference is an important fundraising and awareness raising opportunity for Clusterbusters. An important step in getting our research approved and funded for future work at Harvard and in Germany. We're looking forward to 2010 being a exciting year for us with psilocybin as well as moving forward with BOL.

The next step in our goals with Bromo-lsd will be an expanded study with participants in both Europe and the US.

This conference will help lay the groundwork for this expanded work.

    Bobw

Hope to see some of you there

  11. Hi John,

    Welcome.

I have a feeling that the shadows your experiencing on the opposite side of the clusters are actually a form of rebound headache caused by using the triptans. Treximet is just Imitrex with some Aleve added. (which you may already know) so, you're taking quite a bit of that also.

I think its important to do what you are and try to get the 02 setup. Its very important. Overwhelming odds of it helping a great deal and allowing you to cut down on the trex. Just be sure to get the right set up. 15 LPM or higher and a good non-re-breather mask. There are specific cluster masks out there now that work very well.

As to the BOL, it wont ever be approved as a homeopathic med. Before you can make BOL, you need to make LSD and then modify the molecule. It will need to go through all the necessary approvals....and then some.

  12. This just in from IGive......

Please pass the word if you can.

We know that many causes have had a hard year, so we'd like to try something new to

help Clusterbusters, Inc. that requires your participation, but is free and definitely easy.

iGive.com is going to attempt to donate $5,000 in just 24 hours to Clusterbusters, Inc. and other causes.

For each person who joins iGive using the special link below and does just one web search on our

site between now and noon Thursday, we'll give Clusterbusters, Inc. a dollar.

5,000 new members, $5,000.  No purchase necessary.

Of course, if they search more (or buy something) they'll earn even more money for Clusterbusters, Inc..

Right now, we're donating $.02 per search and a bonus $5 for that first purchase plus the usual percentage.

Here's where you come in.  The only way Clusterbusters, Inc. will get new supporters and that free $1 (or more)

is if you invite them.  Send your friends, family, and colleagues the following link in an e-mail, tweet it, do a

Facebook posting, put up posters, shout from mountain tops (you know the drill) and let them know you think

Clusterbusters, Inc. is pretty cool and deserves their support, especially since it's free!  You can even just forward

    this e-mail.

    This is the link:

    http://www.igive.com/welcome/warm_reg_promo.cfm?m=589910

We're really proud of our search capability, powered by Yahoo!  We've made tons of improvements over the

past four months, so we want lots of people to try it out and put it to the test.  If they keep on searching or

shopping after testing us out, so much the better for Clusterbusters, Inc. and iGive.com.

    The details:

         - Offer active between now and 11:59 a.m., December 17, 2009 (Chicago time).

         - New members only (never have been an iGive member previously).  All the normal rules of membership, searching, and

purchasing apply, our site has the details.

         - Once we've given away $5,000, the offer ends.

That's it.  Don't forget to try our search yourself (http://isearch.igive.com).  You may need to login first.

    :)

  13. Well, in research and pharmaceuticals, everything is counted in years.

I'm actually glad they put it the way they did. Everyone should know that without pressure from the cluster community and doctors trying to treat them, it will take years. People need to know that we can't just sit back and let it happen and the more we push, the faster it will happen.

There are some ways of speeding things up but no one is going to make it easy.

Hopefully we'll get some funding and approvals for the next round of studies (soon) and go where ever we need to go to get this on the market. It may be quicker to get the initial approvals in Europe.

After that it would be difficult to keep approvals from happening in the States. Especially if americans are traveling overseas to spend their medical dollars.

So....you may be getting lots of yanks stopping in for a visit :-)

    Bob
