1. Maybe not all are "family", maybe some are just vistors, some poor wayfaring stranges seeking comfort and help. I think that is okay. I posted somewhere before that it "already feels like home" - some of us newbies - we read so much about your lives...we receive your help and hold you dear in our thoughts, we read of your suffering and hold you even dearer! But we feel inadequate to speak sometimes, unsure of what to say, afraid of our inexperience. I hope to be a sticker to it, a champion of this noble cause, until the day comes when we can all quit rowing because a cure has been found! Amen Funguy, "Onward!"
2. I don't think anyone knows how Lic root works in regard to CH. If it fill the HT-5 receptors, as triptans do, then it could possibly having the same blocking effect. It looks like a very new discussion on the board so I suspect there is only guess work at this point. For dosage read Les's post on the subject (thank you Les!) http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cb/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1293084254 Hope this helps you and good luck on your bust!!!!
3. Thanks T! I appreciate the link - your timing is uncanny as we are currently starting the process of trying to get them to reimburse us. Almost $540 out of pocket in imatrex for my DH just for this week!(and he is worth every penny and more - thank heaven we will be getting our tax return soon!) It criminal what they do >, again - thank you, it is printing as we speak! On an upside he only had to use it once last night as opposed to 4 times the last 5 consecutive nights. We are not sure if his cycle is ramping down or if the licorice is helping or both - but BOY what a relief for him!!
4. In herbalism it is used in the Hoxsey anti-cancer formula, and is a considered adaptogen which helps reregulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. It can also be used for auto-immune conditions including lupus, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and animal dander allergies.[15] The key elements of the HPA axis are: The paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus, which contains neuroendocrine neurons that synthesize and secrete vasopressin and corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH). These two peptides regulate: The anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. In particular, CRH and vasopressin stimulate the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), once known as corticotropin. ACTH in turn acts on: the adrenal cortices, which produce glucocorticoid hormones (mainly cortisol in humans) in response to stimulation by ACTH. Glucocorticoids in turn act back on the hypothalamus and pituitary (to suppress CRH and ACTH production) in a negative feedback cycle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquorice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal_axis DH was able to abort 2 of his HA last night using 30 drops (ration 1:2) licorice as an abortive in addition to his 3 daily doses. It does appear that this compound has some relation to the hypothalamus...
5. Thanks all - I decided that further research would be in our best interest... episodic pain that may possibly be controlled by yucky meds or possibility of losing him to psychosis... worth looking into, and I am glad i have. Lots of info on the web most of it confusing and you need a dictionary by your side to understand even half of it but - the main jist of it all from what I understand so far is that they are unsure of the link between schiz. and the HT-5 receptors There is a possibility that agonist (like LSD & LSA that evoke a response in your system, not to be confused with antagonist that simply block receptors) could possibly exacerbate psychosis is Schiz patients. Of course there is conflicting and continuing research and much of it beyond my ability to really comprehend at this point in the game. BUT it is truly fascinating to me - the correlation between these to things and the confusing role of serotonin in both Schiz and CH. We have decided to try the Licorice and O2 starting tomorrow, that will buy me some time to research more. I am wondering if you are familiar with any good links to the study of the relationship of high/low serotonin levels and CH. PFD & Nights Thanks, good links and got me going on seeking out more info!
6. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the good wishes and interesting posts. It is great to know we can all be ourselves, express our opinions, tick each other off unintentionally, get over ourselves and go on. ;D I was hoping to get a little more feed back on the history of schizophrenia and Raynaud's that he has - has anyone else busted with these conditions? Does anyone know if this an "actual" risk or a "perceived" risk? :-/ Wendyorr - sending out "good vibes" as they say 'round here - hoping your guy is successful and PF - curious - has he been PF since 87 - did you bust back then? keep us posted!
7. I know you all can not give medical advise, so I am hoping to receive your opinions on this. I am working my way through the FAQ busting page. We have ordered 400 RC seeds - should be here tomorrow, but he can not bust yet as he has no abort method except triptans right now (working on the 02 set up)Â But he might not even wait to detox - he is so exhausted and in pain, he will probably want to start as soon as the seeds come in and detox as soon as he gets the regulator set up he needs (we hope he can get that on Tuesday) He has been Episodic for 14 yrs now mainly with 2 yrs in between cycles. (We just found this site last week, and now he is so hopeful to finally be able to fight this) This is his worse cycle ever and he is terrified of the pain. He definitely wants to do the seeds. But now i am very scared. His brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years ago. We also have one - possibly 2 of our 6 children who have mild cases of Raynaud's disease that we believe comes from his genes (says he vaguely recalls having experienced Raynaud symptoms when he was younger - but has not had them in the 18 yrs I've been married to him. (that I know of - I don't know if he would have paid any attention to it) So I am concerned... seems that he has two red flags he should consider, but he is not concerned about the Psycho part as he used LSD recreationally as a teen, and i just read the 2nd contratradiction a few minutes ago and haven't mentioned it to him as he finally asleep. any words of wisdom for me/us... many thanks. :'( we want to bust so badly...
8. My husband (ECH) started dosing yesterday. Gaia Hebs 1 fl oz bottle 1:2 ratio (label lists "water and 25-35% Pure Grain Alchohol) 30 drops at 4pm 30 drops at 8pm HA following at 8pm 11:30pm 2:30am 5:30am and 6:30am - all aborted with 2mm Sumatripan. Pain at base of skull coontinues for 1-2hrs after abort. (o2 theraphy still in process of set up so can not be used as abortive yet) While we are assuming the Sumatripan is probably blocking the receptors, we hope to have oxygen set up this week and detox from the sum. In the mean time he will continue dosing to see if Licorice is effective even during the use of Sum, even though it appears not. To early to tell....
9. i am reminded of Thomas Edison... "the light bulb was invented in 1879 by Thomas edison. it took him 1000 attempts to make the lightbulb. He said he didn't fail 1000 times, he found 999 ways not to make a light bulb." and so we go and purchase some tincture! Will keep you posted on my guniea pig... ooops, I mean hubby thanks for the "lightbulb moment" ;D
10. TY Bob, and a pleasure to talk with u 2! Just ordered his RC seeds [smiley=thumbsup.gif] and working with Batch to get his o2 set up right. we are fighting Group Health to cover more than one refill/month of his sumatripan. Even if we don't win - I figure we have to keep pushing insurance comp.'s to give the right amts. for CH suffers. Hoping one day CHers wont have to fight for it. (gotta say - the people at Group Health Pharamacy were really going to bat for Derek, trying to get coverage for his refills.) And even if we are successful with the seeds, it is apparent to me that having o2 and sumatripan always available is a good precaution, seems you can never underestimate that nasty beast. once we get the seeds, we will need to figure out how long he needs to detox based on an estimated 2 weeks of the sum. use. He would like to try detoxing now, but I don't think he should even try until we have his o2 set up. Gonna go print up s certain tea receipe i've seen posted : Take care & hugs, Holly
11. Does anyone know if there is somewhere we could go to legally does on LSD? Mexico? somewhere? just trying to find any options for this.... thanks for any help [smiley=undecided.gif]
