  1. Reading this post is a walk down memory lane. 15 years trying all of Boston's neurologists(Until I found Mcgeeney).

    I will add:

    1) Reiki

    2) 4 vicodin /4 valium - Praying to pass out... In the end the valium became critical to the massive doses of Prednisone and my ability to not attack people while jacked up on it.

    3) Head in snow bank

    4) Close call with hammer to the front of the head...

Having people talk while I am having a CH is not an option.  If this is happening you need this card immediately and it needs to be short and sweet!  Shut up, get me water, and make it dark PLEASE!  the only water I drank with a CH was to wolf down pills that had zero effect.

  2. As long as I follow my preventative schedule I am PF 6+ years.  I tried to press my luck on the schedule(extended my MM bust a couple months) about 3 years ago and got the Sh-t kicked out of me in back to back cycles(I am episodic).  WONT make that mistake again.  I have said it before and I will say it again.  This site and the people here saved my life!  Not to mention the good doctor in Boston :)

  3. Weak doses set me back on my preventative regiment.  Often times I will have to hit it again if I dose to low.  It is also a far worse experience!  I can only imagine how much worse it must be for a first timer.  Edgy and paranoid versus Happy and trippy.

    PF thoughts to all!

  4. Still looking for the quote but ran across this which I thought was interesting.  Love his last comment...

Motley Crue singer Vince Neil has played concerts through broken bones and torn ligaments, but crippling pain recently forced him off the stage after just a few songs. The culprit? Kidney stones. It's one of the most painful medical conditions humans endure, pain experts say -- although some are worse.

In general, neuropathic pain -- pain produced by damage to nerves rather than tissue -- produces the most excruciating pain, according to Allan Basbaum, chair of the anatomy department at University of California, San Francisco, and former editor of PAIN, the Journal of the International Association for the Study of Pain. And because many of these conditions come and go, patients often live in trepidation of their next attack. "The unknown is terrifying," Basbaum said.

While a definitive ranking is impossible, here's a look at a few of the most debilitating maladies, the kind Basbaum says patients rank as a 15 on a scale of 1-10.

People who suffer from cluster headaches describe them as worse than childbirth without anesthetics, worse than gunshot wounds, head injuries, or a burned hand. "They'll find the worst thing they can think of and tell you it's worse," said neurologist Dr. Peter Goadsby, director of UCSF's Headache Center. "It always causes me to stop and draw a breath."

Part of the affliction of cluster headaches is that few people know what they are.

"People will say, Why don't you take a Tylenol?" Goadsby said.

While migraines affect about 15 percent of the population, cluster headaches only afflict 0.1 percent of the U.S. population. Still, that's about the same rate as the better known multiple sclerosis, Goadsby said.

Treatments include 100 percent oxygen treatments, injections, nasal sprays and preventive drug treatment. But the current National Institutes of Health research funding for the condition is zero.

"I personally just don't get it," Goadsby said.

  5. This is one paragraph from Wikipedia:

    Pain[edit]

The pain occurs only on one side of the head (unilateral), around the eye (orbital), particularly above the eye (supraorbital), in the temple (temporal), or in any combination. The pain of CH is remarkably greater than in other headache conditions, including severe migraine. The term "headache" does not adequately convey the severity of the condition; the disease may be the most painful condition known to medical science.[10] The pain is described as burning, stabbing, boring or squeezing and may be located near or behind the eye.[11] Those with cluster headaches may experience suicidal thoughts during an attack as a result of the pain.

I have seen it in other places as well.

  6. I met a doctor last week that just opened some walk in clinics.  I thought I would amuse myself and ask him how they might help me if I came in with CH's.  He said "High flow O2 would be a great start".  I was pleasantly surprised.  Maybe a few people are starting to pay attention... maybe...  wrong crowd to go into busting but I will next time I run into him.

I find that a good bust can help a lot of frustration!

  7. Hi Viking,

Always hard to hear that kind of timeline of pain.  You have hit the lottery with this site.  I am Pain Free after 10+ years of punishing CH's.  I saw every neurologist in the greater Boston area and nothing worked until this forum saved me with busting.  Welcome, you are already talking with 2 of the best above.

  8. I am sure it is different for everyone.  For me, during the actual bust it feels like someone took a pipe cleaner and ran it from my eyeball to the middle of my head.  I have tried lower doses and not had this sensation.  In every one of those cases I have had to bust hard in the next few days.

I know it is working as I immediately am pain free and the shadows are gone within 24 hours.  Sometimes I have nervousness of a slap back that is mostly fear of the beast.

  9. Bejeeber it made me sick to my stomach when I read it... I was lucky enough to get the 3 to 4 hour kip 9+ but almost always only once in a day and then I was complete junk afterwards.

Echo pick a poison/cure and get going!  a bad trip would not scratch the surface of a CH especially a high KIP!  I have seen many first timers trip and never seen a bad one.

You can and will get your life back.  These guys KNOW what they are talking about.

  10. I admit I know nothing about the other two possible diagnoses.  One thought might be Ketamine.  It works on CH and if you try it and it doesn't work you might be closer to an answer of what you have.  It is far less aggressive that shrooms.

I would however dose today if I was you.  Not sure what the downside is if you are fighting this hard.  Listed to the advice above if you give it a whirl.  We are pulling for you!

  11. I have asked someone I trust who shall go nameless unless he reads this and wants to jump in.  he said Cocaine will not give me the same success as shroomies, however they are seeing very good results with Ecstasy.

Sounds like the coke is a good abortive and god knows anything that will abort belongs in the tackle box... especially if you can leave it there until you need it.

  12. I will take the OVER on this case with the right busting!  You should be our next Board Case Study.  You need to get rid of the crutch(injections) and Bust hard.  These guys know what they are talking about.  You will be mad at yourself after you get the 02 and realize some of the pain you could have reduced...

I predict we meet at the annual meeting in the US next year and you are pain free!

    We are pulling for you!

  13. done.  sending to all I know as well.  email can move the numbers fast.

We could use some help from some colleges and more massive organizations that are on the internet and love a good cause.  Got to be a way to make this viral!

  14. Nice to hear I am not alone on this.  My nightmares are also CRAZY VIVID and usually catastrophic.  I never have them any other time.  If I get 3 in a row I know what's coming.  Now that I am writing this I am not sure why I need to wait for three...

  15. A tell tale CH sign for me(before shadows) is nightmares.  Is this common?  Two night ago I had my 3rd night of pretty shitty nightmares and yesterday woke up with shadows.  Called in sick and crushed 3-4 gram M tea(aggressive for me).  Positive the beast was on me if I waited another day so I hit him hard.  Thanks to busting I woke up clear with only residual shadows that have that inkling of maybe a slap back headache.   Almost positive it won't but have vitamin K if necessary.

God bless this site and god bless the good head doctor!
