  1. Well, as a CH sufferer they are at most, a joke. They make me laugh (however ironically). I do see how they might persuade someone who doesn't know this condition to wonder... or even newbies to question... Advertising sucks anyway you look at it... a necessary evil?
  2. I would like to help but really I can't. The beast has changed it up on me many times. Switching sides is, as Bejeeber mentioned, fairly common (I have experienced it at least twice in 38 years, didn't end up meaning anything). High pressure - low pressure, whatever. I notice those effects, especially when flying (won't get on a plane without a couple of trex shots). Sometimes changes can signal a good shift in your condition (you may loose him completely), so stay positive. But... I have found that just when you think you have him figured out he will kick your ass from another direction completely. So... enjoy your stella and always be prepared for that bastasrd to crash your party. The beast is a predator... a tracker. We, as prey, must just stay one step ahead. Oh, gotta say... love my beer too. Cheers!
  3. I think Dr. McGeeney(or another promenent specailist) compared it to having a limb amputated without anesthesia... Ask them when was the last time they did that? We understand our pain, and on a scale of 1-10 (standard practice for determining pain level in an emergency room)... our range is more 1-100 with the "usual" 10 regestering around K4 for us... and you don't even get a K6 till you are up into the 50/100 range. It is simply inconcievable for those who have never tasted it. Like explaining an orange to someone who has never tasted one.
  4. Hi Ann, you have found the right place. We can show you what the doctors know, and don't know. When dealing with doctors, you have to be the most informed person in the room... sad but true. Oxygen is the first step to your freedom. If you are uncomfortable with busting we can give advise on what to expect from doctors. Most of us here have been down that path and nothing worked for us... why we are here instead. However there are many at our sister site who are happy with their level of "conventional treatment". Read here under clusterbuster files, and for the more conventional approach I suggest clusterheadaches.com. This is our sister site that deals mostly with conventional medicine. Read up there as well. To ARM you for your next "specialist" visit I offer this PDF file: http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?action=downloadfile;file=THERAPIES-_Headache_2011.pdf If they don't recognise this paper as the way to go... ask why and be prepared to find another doctor. The paper shows the most effective current conventional treatments and ranks them in order of effectiveness. Hope this helps... make your first priority oxygen... ya I lauged at it at first, now I credit it with giving my life back. Start with the ClusterO2 Kit here: http://www.clusterheadaches.com/ccp8/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=o2ptimask You won't find this from your medical supplier, but a must have. Also no concentrators, just tanks of pure O2 supplied by a regulator that will deliver minimum 15 liters per munite (lpm), preferrably 25lpm. You will want an "M" tank for home, and a couple of "E" tanks for the car. Imagine just using oxygen for just 10-15 minuites and then being completely free of pain to go about your life! Yes, it works that good for almost all of us. Read up and get your life back now! Take control of your treatment and there will be many pain free days ahead.
  5. Wow Cindy, sounds like a cool Doc... he seems to completely get it.
  6. From what I can tell it works on many of the same receptors, but in the opposite manner than most of the psychedelics (agonist vs antagonist)... except for maybe the 5HT-1A where it is a partial agonist.
  7. Damn spiny what a nightmare! Sounds like negligence to me. I think any lawyer would take the case based on the screw up alone... but their inability to accommodate people with special needs, unforgivable. I would at least write a letter demanding some compensation toward the bill for the pain and suffering they put you through. You gave them all the info they needed to be properly prepared, and they chose to ignore it rather than make an effort to understand what you were telling them. Times like these make me wish I went to law school instead. Wishing you a speedy recovery and PFDs to come.
  8. 5 days is preferred but I have done 4 days before with pretty good results. It is all about getting the most from each bust. If your receptors aren't "unlocked" yet, it won't have maximum effect.
  9. How about RC seeds? http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cb/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1290128974
  10. My first was at 17 in 1975. First hit was as bad as any so it started at once. I had just come off the road (didn't go to high school, just traveled around being a hippy kid). There was no stress or triggers involved, just out of the blue. However, it should be noted that I had given up taking psychedelics about 6 months prior... makes me wonder if maybe they would have hit sooner if I hadn't gone through that "experimental" stage. Anyway, emergency rooms, doctors, all scratching their heads till 1978 when I decided for the heck of it I would go see my old childhood doc. A gentle old guy close to retirement that still made house calls to sick children on his way home from work. I described how an attack goes down, and their apparent pattern. He got up and went to get a book, handed it to me and said read. The first paragraph was almost word for word what I had just said. He nailed it without even much effort. I was treated by a neuro with the usual steroids, lithium, verap, sansert, but I was not responding to any of it. I had no oxygen till I changed docs in 1982. This new doc got very serious with me when I laughed at oxygen, after all how could simple oxygen kill pain strong opiates won't even touch? He forced the issue, stating "It may not work for you, but if it does, imagine aborting headaches in minutes! It is at least worth a try?". Well with this pain we will try almost anything... and it saved and changed my life instantly. That was the same doc that told me "We don't know how or why these headaches happen, and we really don't even know how to treat them. We can suggest things, but it will be up to you to experiment and find what works for you". The best doc I ever had... words to live by.
  11. It depends on several things... mostly freshness and quality of product, and if you are looking for a trip or not. 220ug will be a trip. 50-100 is suficcient for low dose busting. However L degrades easily and unless it is very fresh (or extremely well cared for), you will only get a % of the intended dose. This is why it is important to know your sources. If a good friend with experience who "enjoys a good trip" tells you one dose is enough for him, do half. If he is taking two or more to get his desired result, it has most likely lost potency. In any case, be prepared for some kind of a trip. Set and setting. Isolation from the world with an experienced friend is best. If that is not possible, isolation still, don't plan to do anything but sit and listen to music. Put on some pink floyd and enjoy... it is really nothing to be scared of. Temporary effects are temporary effects, just find a way to enjoy it. When in doubt... DO LESS.
  12. I was into meditation before CH arrrived in my life and it has always been a go-to for me when I am dealing with the pain. I sort of imagine encapsulation of the pain, encasing it like an egg and moving it off to the side where it is not "touching" me. But eventually the level of pain proves too great, the egg cracks open and that rampaging beast nails me. For me, the beast has always been just too strong for meditation alone, but it does buy time when I can't get to treatment right away.
  13. Agreed, it is one of the most difficult aspects of CH to deal with. Some people find Melatonin helps (10mg or more), and sitting up in a recliner (getting horizontal is a trigger for me). If I had a real answer to this I would be a happy man!
  14. I find this to be most interesting... "Ability to dissociate unpleasant emotional responses from stimuli that trigger those responses is facilitated by psilocybin" "This may explain, in part, the utility of psilocybin in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions in which environmental cues trigger a need (eg drug-seeking) This seems spot on to me from my own personal experiences. I also do "chronic" dosing (once a week) to achieve the desired results. I have had a recent breakthrough in this area... will publish results in a new thread after I gather a little more data.
  15. You are not an everyone "Mom". Still hoping I can make it, I love these conferences! Still working on the funds... :-/
  16. I once knew a dentist that would get an H tank for parties/festivals... but he also drove a psychedelic school bus (the good old days). I found a site on the internet that talks about filtering automotive nitrous through a high PH system to remove the H2S, seems pretty sketchy to me considering how dangerous H2S is. The other suggestion was food service N2O, catering company or ?? http://www.justsayn2o.com/nitrous.obtain.html
  17. I have also done the whip cream nitrous (high in O2 and a pain killer/anesthetic to boot), didn't think it did much, but those are small quantities not breathing like O2. I do imagine it would kick harder with Ketamine. I would try a tank if I could get it.
  18. Thanks for sharing that. I am interested to see where it goes from here.
  19. I just tell them I have a defective hypothalamus that causes severe brain seizures, classified by the medical community as the worst pain a human can experience. Usual response... "Ohh Wow", sad look and silence. Works for me since all I really want is them to NOT underestimate my pain.
  20. Good to hear from you... you have been missed. Just got a kitty myself so I know how helpful they can be for keeping spirits up. Sending PF vibes your way for the holidays.
  21. I found stronger doses of M actually bust my depression/anxiety/PTSD. Are you comfortable busting, and do you think it helps you in that area? I can't advise on SSRI's because I have tried quite a few and none really helped me. I know others though who credit them with saving their lives.
  22. BeastBuster It would seem migrainers are even more sensitive to M than us CHers, I think hipshot reported his wife getting relief just from preparing it for him. Your Mom may need much less to get good results and the half life is pretty short with M so busting on friday night... should mean clean on monday.
  23. Back before oxygen I got very adept at finding distraction methods to give precious seconds of relief... I like this one. I have found some points in my skull where with pressure I can block a blood vessel (feel it throbbing under my finger), gives good relief for about 10-15 seconds, but if held too long makes things worse. The trick is to move around to different points... but again just buys time till I can get to oxygen.
  24. Jackie - This website has always been a healing place for me, it is essential. Spending time here helps me more than anything a doctor, partner or friend has ever done for me (with the exception of the doc who first gave me O2). We are a strange family. See if you can make it to the conference in Chicago next year. I went to my first one this year and it is one of my all time favorite experiences. This family understands.
  25. I would approach it as... you have heard about this (but you haven't tried it though), give some information and ask what they think? Their reactions and advise will tell you all you need to know about sharing your experiences.
