Just replied to the other thread about flying - I fly every week for work. No choice in the matter if I want my bills paid.

I've not been able to attribute a CH to the flight or the pressure/altitude change itself. If I'm off cycle, nothing happens. If I'm in a cycle, something else will trigger the CH. Most of my flights are non-eventful.

That said, if I do get a CH while airborne, they are particularly severe. Sitting in a confined noisy space just makes everything suck more.

I always travel with my sumatriptan injectors, and am not shy about injecting right there in my seat.

Arranging oxygen at my destination is problematic. First off, I don't regularly use it, even at home. I've had problems getting it prescribed and maybe I'll look into welding supply - learned that one here. But getting it set up at the far end for flights just won't work for me, since I cover 18 states in my territory and I can't predict where I'm going to be from one week to the next. Just can't manage the logistics.

Triptan injectors are my only saving grace - but to be clear, it's not the flight itself that's a problem, its being away from home in a new or confined space with few options and increased stress levels.

Hope this helps. Your mileage may vary.

Thank you so much for your reply!!!!   This information is very helpful.   Again...thank you!!!

Haha, nothing to do with the life span, it’s more so the time CH takes away from us, for months at a time and years when you’re chronic, life is called to a halt when clusters return, you’re not living when you’re going through a cycle, hence the quote “life happens between cycles”

Right on....makes sense to me!!!!!   Thank you!!!

I couldn’t agree more, if there is one thing cluster headaches has taught me, it’s to make the most of every moment you have and to not waste time, life is short enough as it is for people without cluster headaches, it’s damn well even shorter when you’re a ch’r, read a quote that said “life happens between cycles” hit me hard

Thank you for your post.  I do try and make the most of every moment too.

Question....what do you mean by “It’s damn well even shorter when you’re a ch’r”. Is our life span shorter because we get CH?

    Thank you.

The TSA is very specific these days about what they are checking for -explosives! Not any meds or other stuff.

Once you are through the TSA checkpoint, you can buy drinks in the shops on the concourse that you are allowed to take on the plane.

I recently took on this hurdle after avoiding flying for 15 years. Got through just fine. Had shadows all one day after the flight, but that was it. It was over the Equinox which is my traditional start date, so, pretty scary!  However, I was not in cycle nor did it precipitate one. :)

Good luck! If you have a SPUT, take it as a preventative. It isn't explosive! ;)

Thank you for this information.  This place is great.  :)

I think Seth meant to post this here:

Crazy thing, this my 3rd cycle. And, also on this one, it will skip a day, skip almost two days and come back. And also the time of episodes have varied. I’m episodic and seems to be every 2 years (2015, 2017, now 2019). These clusters super suck, I tried explain it to co-workers as at times I need run off and deal w/ this crap. But, explaining really don’t bring justice. No obvious open wound or blood shown, people don’t understand to much. But, this my first cycle really using oxygen, finally got this doc to prescribe me. Last cycle, she literally told me during a visit and discussion that, “I just gotta deal with it”! Tell me how yal feel about that. I was hot and damn near cried, like this stupid darn ......... Oh well, thanks be to “God” always.

Thank you for your reply.  It means so much knowing that all of you are here to talk to.  Seriously!!!!

I would be sure that I had arranged for oxygen on the other end.

I would consider how effective certain strategies are for aborting in my particular case. Energy shots, triptans, a SPUT . … .   (You can look up SPUT -- or anything else -- by using the search bar at the top right of the page.)

    Thank you!!!

....check your journal...you know, the one you keep on when, where, how hard, how long, activities, eats, stress, weather, etc..... soes you (and maybe a good doc) can figure this out (and then stop journaling)....cuz it sounds like maybe there's "something" happening one day but not the next (like weekend headaches from no caffeine)....we call 'em "triggers"...

....another thought......if yur fairly new to CH it could be your "pattern" has not settled in yet...for some it takes a while (1 yr for me)................

Very helpful.  Thank you for your response!!

  8. Just want to say how grateful I am that I found this group.  I think I will try to get a oxygen tank and try that too.  Last night I was hit at 9:30pm and it lasted to 1:30am.  That was the longest one so far in the 9 years I’ve been getting them.  The odd thing about this cycle is sometimes it skips a day and I get hit at different times during the day. In years past they always came on at the same time each day.
Has anyone else experienced getting them at different times each day?

Seth, click on the blue banner for "new users" at the top of the page for basic information about busting.  Then ask questions (at one of the "restricted" sections here -- "share your busting stories" or "theory and implementation."

Suggest you read this file for an overview of things you can do/should be doing: https://clusterbusters.org/forums/topic/6213-basic-non-busting-information/

Sometimes they go away, or you might have a long remission, but -- sorry to say -- your doctor was mostly wrong.

    Thank you so much!!!!!!

  10. Hello everyone.  I’m new here but have been dealing with CH for 9 years.  I’m currently in a cycle and it’s horrible.  I’m 49.  I just read on here that these don’t ever go away permanently.  My doctor said they will but as I’m learning doctors don’t know too much about these but all of you good people seem to know what’s really going on and for that I am so very grateful.  I want to try this “busting”” technique.  Can someone post a link to what I need to do.  I’ll try anything...seriously.  Thank you all so much!!!!!
