Ron recently noticed something really cool in our conversation with Dr. Sewell regarding Ketamine and cluster headaches.  He cites a study that claimed they could not use Ritalin as a control because it has been known to abort cluster headaches.  After I started looking I found this--

It's an extremely small study, just one 43 year old sufferer, but supposedly 10 milligrams of ritalin aborted his cluster within 10 minutes.  Here's the same study with a little more detail.

And here's an account written by a doctor who treated a 37 year old patient with Ritalin and had very good success...

I'm game.  One more thing I'm going to ask my Neuro for at my next appointment.    Maybe I won't ask him for Ketamine, narcotics and ritalin all in the same visit though...  [smiley=happy.gif]

Thanks again Ron for paying attention to the details!  Seems like a lot of times that's where the good stuff ends up hiding out...

I started taking ritalin about 1 1/2 years ago for idiopathic hypersomnia. I take 10 mg 3 times a day. I take it a 7am noon, and 3pm. when I first started taking it I noticed that it would knock the shadows down fairly quick. After a few months it lost its effect on them. I have never tried to abort an attack with it. I have thought about it but decided to stick to my schedule, if it worked it I would be to easy to start abusing.

As someone that took a TON of adderal in college...and had severe episodic CH, I think adderal / and or Ritalin added to the severity of my cluster headache CYCLES. I never really had a CH while I was ON adderal or ritalin BUT as a person that at one point in time took that stuff every day in college, I noticed when I got off that crap my cycles are WAY WAY WAAAAAY less frequent and less severe. Just saying. Ritalin and adderal create a lot of tension and anxiety...both bad bad bad for CH sufferers. Not the answer.

I have tried all the major add/adhd drugs in my search for CH relief and i found that it does seem to help the pain

perception but i don't know about overall reduction or prevention...

and after it all i settled on 80mg adderall xr 40 b.i.d.

i do have add so i suppose that may play into it all as well

Metamina make me sleep
Metamina seems to be Dextroamphetamine

http://adhd-npf.com/metamina/ http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fadhd-npf.com%2Fmetamina%2F

Dextroamphetamine is a psychostimulant drug which is known to produce increased wakefulness and focus as well as decreased fatigue and decreased appetite.

Wow, I'm surprised you could sleep with that. Well I guess it's in accordance with a clusterhead twisted hypothalamus/circadian rhythms... myself, the RC seeds did not make me sleepy at all.

Ritalin and Celesta seem to both Methylphenidate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylphenidate

and Adderal is a mix of four amphetamine salts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adderal

amphetamines are stimulants, so normally no sleeping help

Back in the 70's benadryl was given as a test for 'hyperactivity'. This is before ADD and ADHD were on the radar for most of us.

If you gave benadryl to a child who was Hyperactive, he would bounce off the walls for several hours. A child who the parents 'thought' was hyper, but was not, would go to sleep. Some parents were very disappointed that they had 'normal' kids who just needed better discipline. ::)

This was supposedly due to the imbalances in the hyperactive childs' system. I knew 2 kids who were diagnosed this way when they were given benadryl for allergies. They then stayed up all night! They just reacted the opposite of the norm. Both were put on drugs that were amphetamines. Of course it caused a calming of the child, not a speed reaction of the general population.

Funny how those things work.  :) I don't know how they actually test or make sure a child has ADD or ADHD today. Wonder if they have a 'proof positive' test or just a visual inspection method.

Well.... Benadryl wires me up... When i do Benadryl for allergic reactions when i do seeds, i cannot sleep. I thoguht it was the seeds, but when i did seeds the first times without Benadryl i slept trough it. But i do not need much sleep anyways, never did. That said, callin me hyper is what you could call an understatement actually. I have this neverending energy. But i kind of like it :)

You would have passed the test for hyperactive! 8-) 8-)

Anyway, that is why Ritalin and such calm and help focus a child who truly have ADD or ADHD. It is a reverse reaction due to their chemical/physical makeup. :o

Now, you are grown and can enjoy that boundless energy! Crossfit??? Besides, it helps you keep up with your beautiful daughter. 8-)
