Sobered up using LSD?

Recommended Posts

Forty years ago, LSD was used in the treatment of alcoholics - with good results. Perhaps it's time to look at it again?

In the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, researchers in many places in the world experimented with LSD in the treatment of various disorders, including alcoholism. Not all experiments were scientifically tenable by today's standards, but some were. Now Teri Krebs and Pål-Ørjan Johansen, researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), have taken a closer look at these experiments. Their results are being published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology.

That's cool, I wish reports on LSD experiments would be public :P

... I fell on this here last year as when I was bored, I searched Wikipedia. I once covered a hockey tournament in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, so I searched "Weyburn" (I was really bored at the time ^^). They had an hospital there that for, what, 20 years? did experiments with LSD, lead by Humphry Osmond who invented the word psychedelic and had supplied Aldous Huxley with his 1st dose of mescaline... I was fascinated reading these Wiki pages. I thought they had thrown all the reports in fire, I'm glad to see someone has its hands on them.

And I saw an interview of Humphry Osmond on you tube, he's about 90 years old on it and I could barely understand what he was saying, but picked this up: it's not the LSD itself that cures alcoholism, but the fact that under that substance, they can visualize their nasty habit and this was all combine to a psychotherapy. This is it here I think... can't understand much what he says 'cause of the accent.

Ha  ;D I'm falling on this live LSD experiment now... very cool

all this with 100 micrograms? wow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGVRrwL16TU'>

"Weyburn was home to the Souris Valley Mental Health Hospital, which was closed as a health care facility and sold in 2006, and demolished in 2009. When opened in 1921, it was the largest building in The British Commonwealth and was considered on the cutting edge of experimental treatments for people with mental disabilities. The facility had a reputation of leading the way in therapeutic programming. At its peak, the facility was home to approximately 2,500 patients.

Humphry Osmond

Humphry Fortescue Osmond (1 July 1917 - 6 February 2004) was a British psychiatrist known for inventing the word psychedelic and for using psychedelic drugs in medical research.

Osmond is also known for a study in the late 1950s in which he attempted to cure alcoholics with LSD, which he claimed achieved a fifty percent success rate"

I recently came across this really cool 700 page write up of the second international conference on the use of LSD in Psychotherapy and Alcoholism, held in 1965.  I have not gotten a chance to read all of it, but so far have read some pretty crazy stuff about John C. Lilly dosing dolphins and an interesting comparison of Psilocybin and Methysergide, not to mention Bol-148.

I was reading about LSD and alcoholism in the NYTimes this morning--awake most of the night with a headache--which is how I found this site. I'm in my 60s, and thought by now my headaches would be gone, but they stay on. I would like to try psylocibin but don't know how to go about getting the right stuff to grow myself. Though I live in mushroom country here in eastern PA, and probably have seen them growing in my lawn. Any suggestions would be helpful. I tired of so much of my life given over to headaches. Though I must admit they are nothing now as bad as in my 20-40s. Still, maybe these new psychotropic experiments may lead to better solutions than Fiorinal with codeine and  Maxalt; my standby treatments.

Hi NDD, welcome to Clusterbusters

I think the best would be for you to start a new thread for yourself so you can gather all the info in one place. There are many ways to go with busting, LSD, psilocybin, LSA (seeds)... Start your thread, people will give you all the answers there :)

Fiorinal? OMG, that's no good for CH, nor codeine, as far as I know.

If you are to bust, you're going to have to first detox from any meds you're taking anyways. You could get RC seeds, order them online, and if you want to grow mushrooms, you can get all the good links for that as well, and I personally wouldn't touch any wild mushrooms unless you really know them.

Hey NDD, this is one of the reasons high liter flow 100% oxygen is so popular around here for an abortive. Unlike the low flow rebreather O2 still commonly, erroneously prescribed by doctors, and which you may have been prescribed before, it's an effective abortive and can allow ya to do that 5 day detox from the drugs before busting. http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cb/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1299901790

That would be cool if you could start a new topic for yourself as Purple suggested so you can get the attention ya deserve.  :)

Thank you for finding this! I went straight to the study pros-cons and found it interesting how much the results sound like those just released in the British study. Such a shame all these years this potentially lifesaving mode of treatment has been ignored.
