The Jesus Shot

Hey ya'll!  This is a copy and paste of a thread that "Hollywood Dan" posted in a facebook group this morning.  Let me say in advance that there are some naysayers regarding this subject due to the docs past legal issues, and I respect those folks reservations but we all have to decide for ourselves to what lengths we're willing to go to tame or slay the beast so wanted to make sure this info is available here as well.

"Jesus shot update.

So far, I believe 5 chronics and one episodic have tried the shot. It's a 3 minute process consisting of 2 steroids and vitamin B12.
Dr Mike Lonergan in Weatherford Ok came up with this anti-inflammatory shot, and says Jesus inspired it; thus the name.

I'm patient #1....
I had my shot on 5-11-16 and went from daily and nightly screamers to completely pain free immediately. I have not had a hit since.
I had 3 nights of shadows mid November and got another shot 11-21-16. No noticeable side effects other than an increased appetite, which is great for me.

Patient #2 RL. Ryan went from CCH to completely pain free, having one hit the day after his shot. His headaches returned after four and a half months.
He got a "pimply rash" that the doctor said isn't that unusual for a young guy full of testosterone.

Patient #3. DE. David is chronic. He had the shot twice with no results. He is the only complete failure, which breaks my heart.

Patient #4 ET. Eric took the shot several months ago and didn't get complete remission, although he did get some relief. He scheduled a second shot, which the doctor DOESN'T charge for. By the time he got his second shot, he had become completely pain free, but went ahead and got his second shot. He is still completely pain free. No side effects that I know of.

Patient #5. VR. Vale is episodic. She got the shot a few months ago. She is in her longest remission in her 13 years of ECH.
No side effects reported.

Patient #6. VA. Virginia got the shot a few months ago, and like Eric, didn't get immediate results. She got a second shot at no charge and is now 100% pain free.
She is enjoying Prosecco for the first time in years, as alcohol is a sure trigger for her.

Sorry I don't have exact dates, which I would really like to have.

I'm posting this because I am completely pain free and want others to give this shot a try, if they find they are out of options.
The shot costs $300 and is not covered by insurance.

Dr Mike was convicted of money crimes and is x con. That concerns me less than a pimple on my ass. I will defend him, as he has helped me and the others in a huge way."

Hey Jerry!

Your daughter and razorPP were 2 I had in mind when I decided to post this here!

The concoction is, of course, proprietary....however, bostonheadachedoc has looked into it and is actually experimenting with the dosage on a few patients in his practice I think, however, I haven't seen any threads on anyone who he may have tried it on...probably due to HIPPA rules I would suspect.

Dr Mike Lonergan

Weatherford, Okla

541-359-6468- Mary will answer

Dexamethasone (steroid)

Kenalog (steroid)

B12

Consists of 1 IV push and 1 I'M injection.

Were I CCH, there isn't a doubt in my mind that I'd be takin a short road trip to see doc mike.....and...given Virginia's

report of it stopping other joint pain along with the CH, I might give it a go if my upcoming cycle isn't responsive to D3 and vitamin M!

Thanks, Denny.  I appreciate you thinking of us.  Unfortunately, my kid has a very very bad reaction to steroids (I should have realized that that would be the powerful anti-inflammatory).  I have the same severe response to steroids that she does.  Of course, the first two times it happened to me the doctors wouldn't believe it.  If I had CH and knew that this might treat it, would I go for it despite the steroids?  I think (though who can really say) that unless O2, D3, energy drinks and occasional trex stopped doing it for me, probably not.  But if powerful doses of anti-inflamms plus B12 can accomplish this lasting effect, there must be something therapeutically significant here, so I'm glad Bostonheadachedoc is looking into it, too.

There is nothing magic about this concoction.    It consists of three very commonly used medications.  The steroids: dexamethasone and kenalog are used in all areas of medicine from neonatology to oncology.  Rheumatologists and orthopedic  surgeons inject these individually or as a mixture into joints every day.   The B12 could be controversial just because most studies report no value in folk who are not clinically deficient.  At worst it fit into a "no harm" category.  Its good that someone like Bostonheadache doc is giving this a try.  Clinical impressions from such a quality person will be very valuable.  I find the term "Jesus shot" a bit misleading and it gives the injection a mystical connotation.  There is nothing magic  or spiritual about it and an open minded physician would likely be able to provide it locally if presented a logical rationale.  Personally I would reserve the religious phrasing to reflect the experience provided by a bit too high a dose of other substances we discuss.  I in no way am being negative about this treatment.  Just want folks to understand if it continues to get positive reviews you can get it locally.  I doubt most offices can do it for 300.00 though.

Hey RazorPP!

I was hoping you'd see this dude!! Fingers and toes crossed that this deal works for ya if you decide to try it brother!!

Pebbles, my understanding is that Dr Mike gave the shot it's name because he had prayed for a solution to help a dear friend who was suffering from severe chronic name. Agreed that the two steroids along with B12 are commonly used drugs.....but my take on it is that this concoction is working because of the combination of IV push and IM injection along with the exact dosage and/or mix of the 3 (he won't divulge the specifics of the amounts used).

My concerns are, of couse,

glad to hear there is good results with the shots, but unfortunate for me they did not work, started five years ago,my last time

i was givin four shots in one go and still did nothing, although i do have to add that i was only able to travel to see my specialist

and get the injection when i was 7 to 10 weeks into my cycle, therefore having the shots in full cluster, instead of the onset

might have a negative effect!,i am just glad it works for others.

Hey RazorPP!

Pebbles, my understanding is that Dr Mike gave the shot it's name because he had prayed for a solution to help a dear friend who was suffering from severe chronic pain of some sort. Agreed that the two steroids along with B12 are commonly used drugs.....but my take on it is that this concoction is working because of the combination of IV push and IM injection along with the exact dosage and/or mix of the 3 (he won't divulge the specifics of the amounts used).

My concerns are, of course, the use of steroids period, and the fact that one is an IV push....when Hollywood first posted on this treatment in the Facebook group, bostonheadachedoc and another doc from Switzerland both got involved in the discussion and both seemed somewhat leary of the push although they were both interested in learning more and doc B posted that he had communicated with doc Mike in some fashion and was going to try what he considered safe increments. So, I'm really anxious to hear of some success from one of his patients!

From what I've read that etiology ( Jesus shot) is correct. I don't think his friend had clusters though. He seems to be using a one size fits all sort of approach to several complex problems. I believe the take home message is strong antiflammatory medications can be effective in certain folks with cluster headaches.

The question remains what is the mechanism of action? If the mechanism can be figured out targeted therapy becomes possible. Personally I think the most promise is in the serotonin pathway which I believe DALT, MM and other analogues show so much promise in "straight forward" cluster sufferers. Why steroids are effective (which I believe they are) along with other anti inflammatory regimens remains a puzzle to me. Something goofy seems to happening in or near the hypothalamus or sphenopalantine ganglia though. Hopefully reasoned reporting of results and credible clinical studies will help discern what's going on and robust solutions emerge.

A couple that I met at the Austin conference drove over from Ardmore yesterday evening to visit.....Charles has had clusters for 7 years and has been chronic from day 1......so, he's heading out to see doc Mike this next week! And Hollywood told me via PM that another Clusterhead has an appointment towards the end of the month.

I received my Dexalog 12 shot on Monday, Dexamethasone (steroid), Kenalog (steroid), B12. I had a reaction to the steroids, no details everyone is different, but intense, getting better.

So, after the shot on day 2 there is no CH pressure or presents behind my right eye and I did not have the 5 to 7 pm hit Tuesday or Wednesday. I will say after 10.5 yrs it's hard for me to mentally process it's not there, in a holding pattern, I'll report back in a few days. I need more time to get over the steroids. The steroids were rough, but I would get another shot in a heart beat.  peace

13 days, still learning what it's like to be pf, I found out I have ch mental memory, had a red bull so I would be ready for activity this weekend, not needed,  shielded my eyes from the movie flashing lights, not needed, the cold in the morning, I tensed and drew up, not needed, instead I embraced the cold

here is something from a member not in the usa, here's his notes about a steroid shot he gets; neurologists notes from last visit, may 2016, 0.5 mls of kenalog and 15.5mls of bupivacaine with the kenalog posteriorly and the bupivacaine in all distributions (greater and lesser occipital nerve, preauricular, supra orbital and supratrochlear nerve, )
