Doctor-Patient Relationships

Clusterbusters could use some input on an important topic. This is with regard to doctor-patient relationships. Most of us have had a lot of these over the years.

I'd like a concise answer to the following questions. 10-12 words or less please. Meaning, get to the point ;-)

1. What is the most important factor to you for a good doctor-patient relationship?
i.e. Must have lolli-pops in waiting room.
or
Understands the science behind cluster headaches.
or ?

2. Why did you leave your last doctor, looking for someone new, based upon this relationship? (not because of insurance, etc)
i.e. Ran out of lolli-pops.
or
Would not work with me.
or ?

We will be doing a more detailed and formal survey as a follow up but this initial data will help us with an upcoming event as well as helping to design the next survey.

P.S. This is important for the community.

Thanks,
Bob

Well...gee-golly Bob...that's phrased more like a command than a request...but I'll play...YOU have my highest regard..........

1) I look for a doc who is precise, concise, and UNEQUIVACOL...none of the "maybe this or that" bullshit..........

2) I leave docs who are deficient in continuing education...."didn't know it then...don't wanna know it now"...bye-bye dumb-ass

There is NO substitute for  a headache SPECIALIST........all the rest are guessing......

PS....when I was a kid our family dentist used to give lollipops as a 'reward" for good visit behavior. Even at 10 I knew this was WRONG...

1. If he does not 'know' he listens and learns. There is the computer, please use it. Here I am, please listen.

2. Lack of caring or willingness to learn what he is treating and the best treatments for it.

Hey Jon,cut some slack!!! Not everyone is here daily. I have been MIA due to surgery. And I thank you for being here!!! :)

1. A doctor who is still curious, does their research, and doesn't fall back on rote conclusions.

2. Left my last doc because a new one finally diagnosed my CH and knew something about treating it. (I may be on the hunt again considering he's been a little dismissive of my request for oxygen. He said something like, "What, are you going to carry an O2 tank with you everywhere you go?" Maybe!)

"He said something like, "What, are you going to carry an O2 tank with you everywhere you go?" Maybe!) "

That's not a good sign....a competent "headache doc" knows FULL well that O2 is the FIRST therapy choice......comparatively inexpensive, rapid action, minimal, if any, side effects....

I "carried" an e-tank in my car, had an e-tank in my office, and of course a nice little rack of e-tanks (later an M or two) at home. A couple of internet purchased $25 regulators and a clustermask or two and I was GOOD TO GO>>>>>>>

Yeah, that's truly nuts, for sure, as jon' says.  Aside from the fact that you can take a tank with you, does he think you never get attacks at home??
