wagwoman
Good morning! I am a relatively new member to this group. I have suffered from clusters for approximately 6 years..............3 were episodal...........the last 3 have been chronic. Like everyone else, I have tried a number of abortives or preventatives. Some did help my clusters, but were nullified by side effects. Others were not an option, as doctors and/or pharmacists refused to dispense certain medications to a Type 1. I do appreciate the complexity I present to the medical establishment, but am starting to feel rather desperate. The stress of an attack (usually a couple a night) raise my sugars............surely this is as damaging as some meds? However, not being a physician............... Anyways, (without going into detail about the lack of medical knowledge or information, as it seems most of you have beaten your heads against this wall, as well), I am considering trying psilocybin. Unfortunately, because of the legal issues, no medical professional is going to give me advise on this subject (other than to avoid any psychedelics, as I won't be able to control a low sugar reaction). I was wondering if there had been any research done using psilocybin when one is a Type 1 diabetic.................long term complications, as well as short term issues. Thanks Debbie PS...........whether this is a solution for my particular problem or not, I would like to thank everyone who posts. While I wish that none of us suffered from clusters, it is comforting to know others understand what I am going through. Ricardo
Two things I've found point to it not being a problem, but I would go carefully and slowly.... About 3/4 of the way down, in this really thick (and really awesome--think I'm going to have to post this somewhere else too...) compilation of Psilocybin studies I found this... "In a study conducted by A.M. Quetin, electrolyte levels, liver toxicity tests and blood sugar levels were shown to be unaffected by psilocybin (Passie 2002)" http://users.humboldt.edu/jmmorgan/psil_s05.htm From the Psilocybin wikipedia page... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybin "In one study, administration of gradually-increasing dosages of psilocybin daily for 21 days had no measurable effect on electrolyte levels, blood sugar levels, or liver toxicity tests." Anybody out there with blood sugar problems that's busted before?
