Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Is this good or is it mold.  Out of 10 these 2 are the only ones showing anything after 8 days and it it doesn't look good. Quote
MoxieGirl Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I'm not the expert, have only grown a few batches. It was much closer to the 2 week point before I really saw a lot of growth. It should be white, almost cobwebby in colour and consistency. Green is bad, that's a bacteria I believe. But white is probably OK, give it more time. I would store mine in a box in the cupboard. Out of light and not too warm and not too cold. MG Quote
Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 It definitely doesn't look like this other one I have that I know is mold. Quote
Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 First one is mold too? Where do I find your method? Quote

Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 Do you have to use spore print or can I use the preordered syringes? Quote
Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 Can room temp be 68-70? Do I still need to light the needle? Quote
Potter Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Light the needle? The candle is to seal the foil after inoculation with the needle. Potter Quote
Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 I read to light needle before inoculating each jar to keep from contaminating. Quote
spiny Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 It seems that this might not be needed since the needle is touching nothing but the sterile foil. Perhaps wipe down the foil with alcohol and let dry before punching it since it could have picked something while cooling. But, I am not the pro Potter is. I read a lot. Quote
Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 So I buy this potato agar at a healthfood store. Do I mix it with anything or just put it in the jars? Do I use normal size baby food jars? I am guessing this just makes smaller amount than 1/2 pint? Quote
Potter Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Yes buy the agar at a health food store, the potato part you make yer self. GOOGLE IT. Half pints are fine. Potter Quote

Sabrinak Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 Is the potato agar better with contamination? Quote
spiny Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I would suspect that with fewer steps, that would allow contamination, it would be much better. After all, everything is sterile and sealed during the whole process. Quote
nolaNancy Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Hi: I just read your method. Do you trip at the dose you recommend? Quote
