Cluster followed by migraine?

Was on the 11th day of the D3 regimen. Kip level were down to 3-4. Also notice decrease in frequency.

Had a kip 3 for around 45 mins which stopped at 1030pm. At 1130pm, another headache started which goes up to kip 7. The pain sensation was similar to cluster with the only difference that it was throbbing in nature. Comes in short waves but on the same side as the cluster with similar pain sites.

Never had this happen before.

I wasn't ready for this and the episode went on for a few hours. Even when the pain subsided, the right side of my head had a constant dull ache. Needless to say, didn't sleep much.

I was having heart throbbing sensation since on High D3 dose. I actually thought I was having a stroke or something and was toying with the idea of going to the ER.

Anyone has similar experience? What is happening?

Hi Plakatboy,

Might be a shadow? Many people describe a shadow as a headache before or after an attack. I tend to think shadows are more like a presence in the mind, but that's probably just fear. I sometimes get a headache for about 2 hours before an attack, which I think would class as a shadow, and have headaches following an attack for a few hours.

All pretty normal.

I get a lot of migraines, and my migraines tend to be across both sides of the head, or more precisely above and behind both eyes. Clusters are nearly, always one sided.

Once I was in about day 3 of a bad migraine when I got a cluster. After the cluster I was totally pain free for about 2 hours, then the migraine returned. I think the cluster scared it off.

I don't know if you've seen all the hype about the Raspberry Ketones. They are the current weight loss miracle pill. I tried some awhile back and got very noticeable heart palpitations. I've never had palpitations in my life, so it was a bit weird, to put it mildly. I did some testing over the course of a few days with different dosses, but even a small dosage made my heart flutter.

So I wouldn't worry much about the heart throbbing. Come off the D3 for a few days and see if it stops, then perhaps go back onto it, building up the dosage gradually over a week. Perhaps you'll find an effective dosage that doesn't cause the throbbing.

That said, when anything to do with the heart, ALWAYS worth talking to your doctor about.

I have daily chronic migraines and chronic clusters now all since birth and I think mine are genetic. I can assure you that you can certainly have both and it will agitater your cluster pain levels though it will soon become easy for you to know which you're having because a migraine is nowhere near the same pain level but when having both at once the first few times it can be hard to tell whther your cluster got worse or if you have a migraine as well.

You should certinaly talk to your headache spcialist about this and if he or she dismisses it tell them the founder of cephalalgia has diagnosed me with clusters and daily migraines so it is possible to live that kind of hell every day of your life, it's mine now I have very little quality of life and spend all year looking forward to headache disorder or vasculitis related events which my granparents fund my trips to or I get sponsored.

I hope this news comforts you that it is not bullshit you probably did have a migraine and cluster headache I'd write down everything in detial if you can remeber as thought aout as you can decribe every little trmor and feeling that pops into your head and bring that to the doc or next time you experience it might be good to video tape yourself with an iphone on a stand or a video camera or your caregiver helping to fim it whilst you try to describe to the camera the exact sensations you're feeling and what it is making you think and try to explain how the two types of pain are different like you said similar trigger point bt a bit duller of a throbbing pain that can last hour, days, weeks, even months.

PF wishes to you and I hope you feel better son. Get outta that cycle and you'll be ok migraines themselves are not all that bad I've had them my entire life and have managed to teach myself to read and write when I have a 10/10 migraine. It's nothing near a KIP 10 cluster which I have quite often now and makes me want to blow my fucking brains out excuse my French. But I know that isn't the way out for me. Perhaps busting will give me back my life soon.

Keep in contact with me and send any questions you might have about it I'm an advocate and very happy and friendly to answer any questions you may have.

Here's how I scale my headaches.

I have a 1-10 pain scale for Headaches, another for Migraines and another for Clusters.

The 1 on the Migraine scale starts at about 7 on the Headache, and likewise the 1 on the Cluster starts at about 7 on the Migraine.

Notice the Cluster is longer than the other two, which represents the 10 is actually much, much more painful. In fact, I've had clusters go to 14 on my scale as they blew everything I'd ever experienced before out of the water.

Thank you Fabac. *smiles*

Although I didn't have migraines in mind when I started busting, it has had a remarkable effect on them.

In fact, here are the numbers from my headache diary.

2010 - 63 migraines

2011 - 42 migraines

2012 - 3 migraines

2013 - 7 migraines

2014 - 7 migraines (thus far)

Can you spot the year I started busting?

To say mushrooms have given me my life back is no exaggeration.

Jan - Mar is historically my worst time of year for headache related pains, and there have been times when I've been off work because of migraines more than I was at work for those three months. When one of my bad migraines puts me in bed for 5-7 days, you can easily see why. Although now, thanks to mushrooms, it's rare a migraine lasts more than 24-48 hours.
