Shadow or Pain?

Recommended Posts

I had quite a brutal attack at midnight.

This morning my eye was swollen and side of my head as well.

Busting pain on the affected side since I woke up.

I couldn't tell if is a hectic shadow or aftermath of the attack.

I tried O2 for a while but didn't settle this pain and discomfort.

Still have it at the moment.

Pain med not helping. Anti-inflammatory as well.

The anxiety is overwhelming since subconsciously my body is expecting a CH

What do you guys suggest in this situation?

You could try some ice packs for the swelling. The ice might help to numb the pain a bit as well. The PTSD/Anxiety is a beach! I struggle with it all the time even when I'm in the clear. The one thing that I have found that helps is exercise and staying busy. I know some can't exercise without worry of an attack while others will use it as an abort. Ever since I was able to get a break from a particularly looong attack by jumping on the treadmill, it's been something that I do when I have bad shadows. Sorry I've not got much to help on this one. I hope your head clears up soon!!!

It sounds like you are getting the eye droop? I used to get those once in a while but not too much lately. Do you do stuff like press on your eye or slap you head? I really try to avoid those things. Many CH people have squished their eyes to heck. As for shadows, they def can vary and some are so strong that it's not far off from attack level pain!

Hang in there warrior, I too had a huge set of attacks last night and I am trashed and full of shadows today.

The eye droop and those intense shadows sound really tough to deal with. It’s good to know that pressing or slapping the area can sometimes make things worse something to avoid. Hope you’re able to get some rest and that those attacks ease up soon.

I only massage the area whilst taking 02.

It's a hectic feeling. Subconsciously, body is expecting an attack.

Sorry buddy, I hope you are ok today.

Yup my wife said that my eye has almost shut.

But I'm ok today.

I am gone 4 days now without an attack. Counting till at least 7 days so I know this nightmare is over once again. I really hope so then I can resume normal life once again. Can't wait for this season to be over.

Thanks so much.

I go to the beach a lot. Whilst there I never get attacks or shadows the entire time.

I'm always trying to keep myself busy and you are right, it does help so much.

It's just the nights that it gets me.

It's like I am not allowed to rest. Weird.

I wonder if this might have anything to do with the amount of negative ions generated by the surf? I know it sounds silly and no I'm not a hippy chick or anything (nothing against them I'm just not one:)). It sort of makes sense when you think about the fact that humans are primarily made of atoms and molecules, with ions having a role in the biological process of things like nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction etc. Ions are basically atoms that have gained or lost electrons, resulting in a net electrical charge. Anyhoo just a thought. Full geek out moment over!

Don't feel too lonely i also had a massive attack last night and 2 light attacks. Today felt like I was beat. I tell myself during the attack that this will pass. I keep groaning and trying to remind myself it will pass.

Sorry I can't offer more but I feel your pain

Cyman, do you have oxygen or some other abortive (a triptan such as Imitrex or Zomig; DMT)?

I get given o2 when I go to a&e as the doctor won't or I should say can't prescribe it for home use. I live in England. but tbh it doesn't really do a lot for me. I compensate by heavy breathing when the seizures start and try to get as much o2 into my body as I can and sometimes I think it helps other times nothing.  I pack a plastic bag full of ice and just moan until it passes. People tell me to do various things like mind control and calming thought but they just don't understand that when it's in full flow I can't even think of my own name. I don't need to tell you guys what it's like but other people just assume it's a migraine.  Like snowflake says the fear of sleeping is what sets in. Past 3 days and nights I have slept a total of 10 hours. Just a wreak of a body atm and sometimes feel like I'm going insane

I find that once my hands reach for my skull to start the pressing the intensity increases its almost like my brain wants to punish me for pressing the vein beside my eye. It throbs like it's abt to burst. So as weird as it sounds I almost play a game of trying not to reach for my head but I know once the intensity reaches a certain level all this goes out yhe window.  I also do a cranial squeeze on top left side of the skull and sometimes that helps with ice bags. In truth the damned thing has a mind of its own. It fades as quick as it starts but my seizures tend to last 60 minutes and peak around 20 mins reducing at around 45 to 50 mins. Yesterday I started having day attacks of 20 or 30 minutes duration too. I was so glad it only lasted 20 mins. Last season I was having 2 one hour sessions a night and two a day and I was just a sack of meat. Drooping eye bruised face from pressing and so depressed

Thanks a lot . I guess we all are here for venting and support since nobody else will know what this life is like outside of this group.

I found for me, imitrex were causing longer cycles and rebound Ch's really soon after each attack.

Here is SA, they are no longer available as well.

I think 02 is the best way.

For me, Prednisone and loading D3 is helping.

I went 1 week without an attack or shadow. I actually thought my season was over, but the other night I had 8 attacks at night.

I don't know how to tell if the season is over anymore cos I used to count 7 days and if I'm completely pain free after the 7th day, I know it's over. Now I'm not sure anymore.

I don't get day time attacks this season. Not 1. Just gets me at night.

I think the timing of the Prednisone has to be spot on when I take it at 10 am everyday in-between food.

That seems to be helping me this cycle.

I have those rare nights with multiple attacks as mentioned above.

Also noticed that it happens on a full moon always.
