Where pain pills fail, electronic devices can deli

Putting spikes in the road will slow a truck but it still runs.

Gotta admit the fella has led a lot of very impressive work in defining CH however. Certainly has a clearer picture than most of what CH is.

"GODsby" I like that, says it all for so many believe it.

Wonder why he doesnt pursue research into the single most affective treatment there is for so many of us. He has the tools and the budget available.

Maybe he doesnt have the control.

Maybe he doesnt have the control.

I think this can be the only reason why MJ.

He's governed by money people from above, or our laws.

One or the other. He's well aware of the success many are having with shrooms.

I can remember him saying, several years ago now.

" I will find a cure within 5 years"

Well, where still waiting. :(

CaRL,

quote][Looks like GODsby is working on the wrong Alternative./quote]

Not sure why we would object to any meaningful research by a knowledgable researcher. I hope he finds something else that works. Clearly its easier to fund studies for "legal" treatments as opposed to "illegal" treatments. Our cause carries on but more power to Goadsby. test below.

Beyond damaged nerves, researchers are considering electronic stimulation for headaches. One option is to implant electrodes deep in the brain, where they interfere with signals from the part that causes the pain of cluster headaches.

"That's remarkably effective," says Dr. Peter Goadsby, director of the UCSF Headache Center. However, it's also invasive: "You have to drill a hole in the person's head and stick an electrode in their brain."

Goadsby is working on an alternative that would put the electrode on the edge of the brain, where the occipital nerve runs in the back of the head. This nerve connects to the part of the brain that interprets headache pain, so interfering with its activity can swap pain sensations for tingly paresthesia. Goadsby has used devices as small as a matchstick to generate the interfering signal, and they have little risk, he says.

This treatment could be effective for migraines as well as cluster headache but is still undergoing study. Researchers are working to figure out how best to use the therapy and who is most likely to benefit.

Hello Jay,

Why on earth would you expect him to find something else that works?

This new research seems to me to be exactly the same as ONSI. just a smaller implant, & I am not aware of any ONSI recipient that is using just the stimulator alone, all are still having to use a daily cocktail of drugs, & 02.

Then there's the cost, or should I say profit to the companies that are supplying the 13amp fuses.

IMHO the money being ploughed into this type of research would be better spent looking into the success story's we here have had using shrooms.

I agree, Goadsby's knowledge, & cluster headache is vast, but for the life of me I cannot understand his pursuit of this Frankenstein type research, when so many are having continued success with natural products.

Cocaine, & Morphine are both Class A drugs, but they are both used in today's medicine cabinets. So the argument that "legal" treatments are clearly easier to fund studies for, as opposed to "illegal" treatments just doesn't make sense.

He has been well aware of the success many of us have had over the years with Alt's, but he still refuses to help, & he continues to blow hundreds of thousands of pounds on research which IMHO is heading in the wrong direction.

But what does a pain free uneducated Chronic Cluster Headache sufferer like me no eh?

CArl...

CArl, your points are well taken and your experience thru research is vast. Agree based on my very little knowledge it seems as though "natural" treatments have produced very effective results. If I thought his research dollars would go our way rather than the way he is going, I'd be all for that. Assumed he was knowledgeable to know whether he is onto something or not, but he may be like so many researchers who are just after the next grant to support their practice and lifesstyle rather than having the balls to do the right thing. I give..and now agree with your HO.

Amen CArl!!! That money could be better spent and we know where, however once again it come down to the fact that Alt therapy will NOT produce the dollars for anyone (i.e pharmaceutical companies) to put up their R & D money to research it.

Jay,

Glad to see your last response, I have enough holes in my head I really don't want to make ones that don't come with the ones my Parents gave me :)

Electrode implants do not work for all kinds of pain or for all people, and they carry the risks inherent in any surgical procedure,

When we get the numbers on our side - and we're getting there - they'll have to listen to us. If enough of the right people see enough of us (I mean you, though I'm honored to represent you) both CH and prescription-free, the medical community, the pharmaceutical community and the legal community will start paying attention. It's just a matter of time - we know it works!

Don't want to cause any depression, but as long as big pharm companies regulate stuff with what docs prescribe and give them hints what is best for patients, then we got no chance even with numbers, they will just show us big middle finger and ignore us.

I am still good hopes, hopefuly things won't go as I fear they may.

I am with you MattyAA.

We can only hope.

Matty, Dude

It's gonna take a lot more than hoping, I'm afraid. I'm the laziest man on the planet and can never be depended on to more than just carry my own weight. Still, I'll help, but just. I don't know what the answer is. I don't even know in what direction the answer is. I think we need recognition and backing and ideas. But it'll happen. It's the right thing to do and the right thing to happen. I don't know on who's timetable but it'll happen. I think maybe they're not all as sinister as we expect them to be. I bet some of them will even end up helping us. We don't want to make money from this procedure. And it can't cost them that much in revenue if they let us. We just want to be able to legally do it and maybe be able to supply others for free so that they can do it and only for this one specific treatment. I'm pretty sure about this one.

Ron

p.s. - You're probably right, but still...

I hear you Ron, and you are very right and we should stand as one and shout for treatment that helps so many in agony, even if it helped one person, it should be done because why would one life be less worthy eh?

I just come from country which was influenced greatly by communism and socialism mono-party system and I believe the pharma companies are similar, they got one target and they will stick to it, deciding what to do, not sure about political things and all but I read somewhere those pharma companies got 'contacts' in most countries governments and World Health Organisation, so my fear isn't just because I fear, it is because I either read facts that are either true or false, hopefuly the second.

To be honest, Goadsby wants good for us but he won't say they push on him ONSI because it gives more profits or probably his career would be done, or not, but he wouldnt touch or get close to any serious institues that I am guessing are mostly decided by pharmas : /

Also do tell how is Michael doing, please :)

@Cassidy thanks for support :) , how are you doing?

@David I am doing okayish, got only persisiting shadows everyday but I think it might be other headache not CH, more like persisiting daily headache, or I went shadow chronic but episodic with big hits : /

So far I moved from my home city to Cracov to try finish my university, well got my O2 tank there so I am somehow secured.

How are you doing?

Thank you for asking, Matty. Michael's doing great! I think we may have turned a corner this time. He took less (3.75g) but still felt psychedelic effects. For the 1st time didn't wake HA free. Woke crying from the pain of the worst HA since starting with alts. It didn't abate for 3 days. But when it did on Tues., he said it felt like the HA was "more gone." More gone than past times when he said it was "completely" gone. I don't get it either. Kinda I get it.

His experience with the shrooms has become boringly routine: dose, next day HA free, free for 3-4 days, a day of shadows and then they return. This time it's more like you guys. This is the 5th day HA free. We'll see.

Ron,

Praying for more 5 day pain free days and then 5 more etc.

Matty,

Good to hear that at least it is down to shadows, do you think the MG seeds helped at all?

David

Hey Ron, that is some good progress, I am happy Michael has some success, he deserves it like we all do. Hope your success continues guys! *crosses fingers*

@David, I am not sure, perhaps they did, although I may just say they stopped by themself, since I dosed 4 times and actually 1 day before I was about to dose 5th time they stopped, but the 2 days before ceasation I got less frequent and less painful ones, so I think cycle ended by itself.

Might be I am 'immune' to MG.

I am going to try hunt some RC/HBWR seeds maybe in southern neighbour of Poland, Czech Republic, heard they changed law to become second Netherlands from past, so I guess worth a try.

MattyAA,

Good idea to try for RC or HBWR.

All is well here. Just wish for the same for you.  Leslie :)

Good to hear Cassidy, I am going to take some stuff and see if I get any headaches till 2012 December.

I used to get them every 2 years, this year they came later May after one year, though day before I drank 2 bottles of beer as I had bday party, next day Cluster demon gave me nice bday present hehe, I was so happy to unwrap it.... NOT!

Though I am curious since day before I got my first headache in 3.5 week cycle I had feeling as if someone hit me with baseball bat in my neck, I barely could hold my head staight, and then for next 2 weeks each day that I got headache I had these, the days I didnt next day no headaches, until last 2 weeks of my cycle, when pattern disappeared.
