The uber PET PEEVE that makes Jeebs go ballistic!

OK for some the use of the word 'uber', or referring to oneself in the 3rd person is an annoying pet peeve :D, but I have a particular word that makes my blood boil - or at least simmer some - whenever it is used in conjunction with the affliction we are dedicated to busting here.

Yep, the "H" word. The one that is aptly used in the term tension headache, since there can be something like an actual ache involved here.

The problem here is that there is no ache involved in a cluster attack! The term cluster headache is an incredible disservice, and gives an entirely wrong perception of this condition. Makes about as much sense as calling a broken back a backache, or the sensation of having one's leg amputated sans anesthesia a leg ache. Clearly it's use should be discontinued immediately, and a much more accurate term should be officially adopted.

Meantime you'll never catch me using the term headache to refer to a cluster attack!

I would like to strongly encourage others to adopt either 'attack' or 'hit' to describe their attacks or the attacks of their loved ones and not propagate this evil H word misnomer from hell any further.  ;D

Pet peeve out,

-Jeebs, preacher to the choir.  :)

I agree, it's not a headache, it's an attack. I wish we could get it changed in the medical literature.

Y'know what my pet peeve is?

When the feckers don't know what the hell it is and pry my eye open.

DO YOU THINK I'M HOLDING MY EYE CLOSED FOR FUN?

NO.

WHY THE HELL DO THEY ALWAYS HAVE TO TRY THAT? I mean, you see someone with a gaping wound in their leg, the first thing you do isn't JAM A FINGER IN.

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHH.

Just had to get that out. My Mom and I always laugh once it's COMPLETELY over, because seriously, what the feck is wrong with them?

LEAVE OUR CLUSTER EYE'S ALONE. </leavebritneyalonevoice>

Mystina,

I just laughed out loud...  I once had a head injury when I was in the Army.  When the doctors got around to looking at me they saw the blood pouring from the side of my head and ear.  This guy promptly grabs a queue tip one of those with the wooden stick on it, and asks to his cohort.  "Do you think it went through his ear"...   Just like I wasn't in the room.  And you guessed it.  Before I could say anything, I felt a searing pain as he pushed the queue tip through my ear...  Then I hear "yep it sure does, goes right through and into the back of his head..."  WTF.. It didn't take pushing a queue tip through my head to see that, Dr Dumb A$$... ha....

That is one of mine too

I had a intern once who actually wanted to shine a light into my eye during an attack (I am photo sensitive during a hit).  When he did it, I grab the interns arms and lifted him up in the air to make him stop.  Fortunately, my wife was with me at the time to stop me from liberating the interns arms from the rest of his body.  Some doctors are just plain stupid.

As far as my kid's concerned, the monster that attacks him has a face and a personality. It's the manifestation of pure evil. And it's smart. It looks for - and finds - ways around or through everything we throw at it. Attempts to run away or hide strengthen it. And it always comes back. He calls it the Demon.

Jeebs, I agree with you, headache is such an inappropriate word. I tend to call clusters the tsunami of the headache world, but even that doesn't do it justice. I like 'Attack', but 'Explosion' works well too.

I can very much relate to the image of a Demon for my clusters. In my mind, it is a black shadow, a shadow demon in fact, that comes out and attacks me. Sometimes it hides behind trees (I once planted a tree and flowers in my mind to be a place of peace and calm), or other places in my head, but will sneak out and attack when it wants. It is smart, cunning and relentless.
