CHfather
Since we had reports of a couple of instances of flu/fever seeming to knock out CH for a while, and since my daughter was one of those instances (during a time when she was taking nothing abortive or preventive for her HAs), I took the liberty of writing to a med school prof who's a CH activist to find out if he knew anything about that connection. One of those "You never know, but let's not just drop it" kinds of things. Below is his generously quick reply to me. Nothing to get excited about by any means -- just thought I'd share it. >>>>No, that's odd. There are plenty of reports of cluster headache being triggered by viral infections, but I haven't heard of cluster attacks being suppressed by them! Flu symptoms are caused by cytokines and prostaglandins secreted by the immune system in response to infection. I will keep my eye out for any research suggesting a connection. Often patients notice these things before doctors do.<<<<
TakinitEZ
I'll throw another twist in there... I haven't had so much as a bad cold since my CH started. -T
Bonkers
I'm excited about it! What if it turns out that raising body temperature a couple of degrees aborts clusters??? Kinda hard to do safely at home, but still... Good on you CHfather for taking the initiative.
Bejeeber
Next thing you know a bunch of us will be lining up for flu shots - but a different version that is chock full of live virus.
kaboom
Interesting topic. I've experienced attacks during a hard workout, so I'm not sure it has to do with just raising body temperature. ???
dereksgirl
Thanks for the leg work CH Father! I to will be looking at specifically what happens to the serotonin/dopamine levels during a fever.
tingeling
When i get in high cycle, my body temp raise and i get fever on and off. But when going to gym, it helps me. So it can`t be just about raised body temp.
Pixie-elf
When i get in high cycle, my body temp raise and i get fever on and off. But when going to gym, it helps me. So it can`t be just about raised body temp. The same thing happens to me when I'm getting hit. My temperature goes up. I'll sometimes spike a low-grade fever. I haven't had the flu in years, but any head cold I've gotten has made my CH worse. I've had probably 3-4 head colds, and one case of strep in the past 2.5 years. (Strep was last month.) I can't wait to see where this leads. XD Mystina
CHfather
Sorry to waste the time of anyone who clicks on this. I was just re-reading les genser's licorice root thread and noticed there that proloslam says s/he also becomes PF when s/he has flu/ fever. I'm adding this note here, sort of to myself, because some day these data might matter.
ThatHurtsMyHead
I found many years ago that raising my temperature is definitely a trigger (right up there with alcohol and chocolate). A favorite past time of mine is taking a hot tub soak in an outdoor hottub in the winter (very relaxing, and best done when it's snowing!). I found that when in cycle it would trigger an attack every time within 5 to 15 minutes of getting in the water. On the other hand I've also noticed that not always, but usually have infected tonsils either before or during a cycle (ususally with a sore throat). Maybe there's a germ that helps and others that hurt. Wouldn't be unheard of. Jeff
Bejeeber
OK so last time I checked, us human bums are warm blooded, and that means "Maintaining a relatively constant and warm body temperature independent of environmental temperature; homeothermic." So running a fever is different from taking a hot bath, and should have a different effect, right?

Me too. I was told to remove them, chronic infection. Fungi fixed it, never has infected tonsils now.
