  1. Thanks MaxHead for posting the article. Yeah it turned out pretty good. It was great that the author interviewed and quoted a lot of good qualified people like Dr. Schindler that gave the treatments and clusters in general, the respect they deserve. The author is a Pulitzer Prize winning author so she carries quite a bit of weight and the article is getting a lot of attention for clusters. Thanks for everyone here that has helped keep these fires burning all these years. Its been a team effort. Way to go team ;-) Bob

  2. It is quite the read Pebbles. And it supports my experience of not seeing microdosing as a way to kill a cycle to date. Much talk at times, but not much in the way of 'It worked for me'!!! Interesting info on the placebo effect!

  3. I tried to microdose. It just didn't work for me. I prefer the megadose! :p

  4. I guess not permanently, but I have been in remission since 2011. Last cycle (2011) busted with RC seeds.

  5. Kluster, Couldn't tell you how many times I've done that. I regularly put my doses off till my beast comes back. Then it's always harder to get it back under control. I'm a huge proponent of preventative dosing. I went the majority of 5 years w/o getting hit as long as I kept to my dosing schedule. When I would get lazy, it always came back. J

  6. I dose all the time (about 15 times a year) and besides a dentist trip triggering I have skipped three solid years of cycles and counting.

  7. Just wanted to say Thank You for everyone here. Last February 6th I started the roughest cycle I had ever been through in 17 years of dealing with Clusters and everyone here was nice enough to help me get through it. My mind did wander to some bad places during that cycle and it no longer does as the wisdom of this group brought me to the right place. Thank You for all you do.

  8. Hi all, now that I have found relief, I thought I would circle back and post about it here. I am not a doctor but this is my experience and obviously is not advice. I got a terrible 'flu' when I was 15 and got lots of persistent symptoms including daily brain splitting headaches that lasted for 45 years. That's the very abbreviated version. My headaches had a lot in common with cluster headaches but also had some differences. Busting was almost the only thing that helped me but I felt terrible when I was doing it so I didn't do it as often as I should to keep them at bay. I would get really bad vertigo for hours when I busted. Oxygen didn't help me at all and Vitamin D messed up my thyroid balance and caused other problems so it was a no go for me in larger doses. My doctor recommended low-dose Naltrexone and it has literally changed my life. I only get a few headaches a month and they are much more manageable. Sometimes, Tylenol at the beginning is all I need to get rid of one. That is unheard of for me. Sometimes I get the symptoms of a headache (tearing eye, swollen sinuses, stiff neck, etc) but no pain. While I know this is not the case for everyone, I have zero side effects from it and I know that many other people have the same experience. LDN is typically given in much larger doses to help people get off opioids. The typical dose for that is 50 mg and up. It is also given off-label for people with auto-immune illnesses, headaches and other uses, at tiny doses beginning at 1 mg. I can not stress enough how different my life is now. Wishing all of you a similar future.

  9. My doctor also suggested I try Nurtec at my annual last week. I picked up the script today and I've been doing as much research as I can get my hands on. Like @kat_92, I'm suspicious when it targets migraines but doesn't specifically mention clusters. I reviewed their web site and couldn't find a single mention of cluster treatment. Also, literature says it can take anywhere from 1-2 hours for pain relief, so if I'm using it as an abortive, I don't know that that helps much. That said, it says it prevents them for 48 hours after. That could be good. They seem real proud that it reduces the biggest problems associated with migraines: Noise Sensitivity, Light Sensitivity and Nausea. Great, but like most of you, I don't have those symptoms with my cluster attacks. @CHfatherI found one line of discussion that indicated the maker is filing with the FDA to have it listed as a preventive, and that some headache specialists are already prescribing it that way even though the current FDA guidance specifically says its not. My pharmacist freaked out when I filled the script - I also refilled my sumatriptan at the same time and the pharmacist was emphatic that I not take them both. I honestly had not intended to, but if Nurtec doesn't work, I want my good friend standing by and ready. But I did get curious, so I looked up the drug interactions on drug.com and it said none exist. OK, nice to know, but I think if the situation arises, I'll avoid taking the chance. I do have oxygen tanks, but find they are only useful for mild attacks. In any case, that will be my backup if Nurtec doesn't work tonight. I'll wait a couple days before going back to the triptans. The only thing I'm puzzled over - if Nurtec works for 48 hours, why would I wait for my 1:30 AM attack? Why not take it now? Decision made - I'm going to start a dose tonight before bed - I'll post my experience in a couple days...

  10. I know a guy pretty well that HAD cluster headaches, but they've been gone for about 15 years or so. Pretty amazing. He thinks it's because he changed his lifestyle (stop doing recreational drugs/smoking)... With him as the exception, I've never heard of this. Mine went away for about 3 years or so... but they're back now....:( week 8...
