  1. Hi Fern and welcome. Glad that you found us! You will find a lot of info in the blue banner above that says New Members.... Avoid MSG, alcohol, fermented foods etc. Eat clean. Msg can bring on one right quick for some. Caffeine: In an Energy drink or shot, V Energy, or coffee. If you can hack the Energy shots, some say the taurine in them is helpful. Otherwise, any strong caffeine. Most want them ice cold. Slam it down - drink quickly, at the very start of a hit. You can hyperventilate too and exhale with a crunch to get rid of the CO2 in your lungs. Many will suck in the cold air from an AC vent in the car. There are proponents of ice packs too. A really hot bath - shallow - helps some by opening the blood vessels in the legs. I have sat in many a screaming hot bath. I just kept adding more and put a cold cloth on my head. Well, cold water type cold. Not ice! Benadryl can help a lot too. Take only at night if it makes you too sleepy. Also, there is Melatonin in the 20-25mg amount. Do not take both at once! Try one, then when you know how it affects your balance, etc. Then you can add the other. Add the Melatonin 10mg to start. Or less. If you get hit at night, then sleep in a recliner with your head above your heart. It will enable you to get up and hitting the caffeine, cold air, hot bath, whatever works for you. We are all different. Some get great relief from an ice cube held against the roof of the mouth on the CH side. How about your experience so far? Share a bit so we can help you better.

  2. I too salute Spiny's bible dispensation above! I'll just emphasize a couple tidbits Doubly avoid alcohol - it is a HUGE trigger for so many. Holding an ice cube against roof of mouth while breathing freezing air from that blasting car air conditioner vent , until a soothing in comparison "ice cream headache" develops and CH disappears, has been an abort technique that has helped some, sometimes - if caught at onset. Lots of CHers have ditched the medical RX O2 in favor of welding O2 (which is reputedly the same stuff), available without prescription.

  3. Hi there Gemma and welcome! The symptom you are describing is not one that I recognize as a CH thing. I have heard of and seen the paralysis that you seem to be describing though. I had a boyfriend many decades ago that would get that and it was really scary. I had cluster and he had that. He would not be able to move for 15 minutes? Have you had an MRI done yet? You might want to get one if not. We do recommend that all CHer's have one to rule out other stuff. And some have found 'other stuff' too. What are you taking now for your CH? Are you on any medication currently? Perhaps if we back up a bit, it might help. Can you give us some info on your treatments to date?

  4. I'm supper sorry you are going through this.. Spiny just gave you the Bible. Can you give us some background? We all tell eachother what meds. Etc. But if you are the private type I get that as well.

  5. Here's hoping whoever diagnoses you doesn't subscribe to the apparently still common (but outmoded pure B.S) notion that only males should be diagnosed with CH.

  6. The primary will probably refer you to a specialist and then the specialist will still have to listen to your words with no test to proclaim CH. Basically their diagnosis is on you....

  11. So far it has been 5 days. Clusters are about the same as they were last week I cut it from 120 twice a day down to just one in the morning. Gonna keep going like this another week and see how things are. Weather around here is a little funky this time of year so that is not going to help give me a good read on it but we will see. Thanks for askin!

  13. Thank you for the response CHFather. By the way, I'm sorry your daughter has to deal with this monster. It must be incredibly tough for you to witness an innocent child being tortured, but obviously, you're doing what you can to learn and get armed with knowledge. I wish you the best. I'm not at all new to the monster, but I'm very new to researching and even talking about it, so any comments, like your reality check to me, are really appreciated. Been anxious about the "what-ifs" lately.....and it's spiralling me down. Your comments have eased my mind a bit.....and really, it's made me just now sit back and realize what a wonderful world this really is. A complete stranger halfway across the world, just answered my fear-based question, and I feel better. That's pretty freakin wild. Thank you again.

  14. Thanks for the guidance, Jeebs. I was just copying and pasting the links; never noticed the link thingie. MST3k is good. Of course, if you're jonesin' for some and you don't want to splurge on Netflix. there are tons of full-length older episodes on youtube, if you can tolerate non-HD. (Heck yes, I'm old but I'm hip. I can say "jonesin' " with authority.)
